Starwood Hotels and Resorts

Sami Zoghbi, président du groupe Starwood pour l’Afrique, l’Inde et le Proche-Orient, affirme que le groupe a amorcé une vaste opération d’expansion au Proche-Orient sous différentes enseignes internationales. En 1999, de nombreux établissements hôteliers ont rejoint le groupe. Il s’agit principalement du : Sheraton Block Hotels (Kenya, 12 hôtels) ; Sheraton Dammam Hotel and Towers (Arabie séoudite) ; Le Bristol Luxury Collection Hotel (Liban) ; Four Points Sheraton (Émirats arabes unis) ; Sheraton Club De Pins Resorts and Towers (Algérie) ; Sheraton Pretoria Hotels and Towers (Afrique du Sud) et Four Points Ak Altin Plaza Hotel (Turkmenistan). Avec l’inauguration en juillet 2000 du Sheraton Damman, Starwood aura des hôtels dans tous les pays du Proche-Orient. Starwood a initié un important programme de fidélisation de la clientèle, Special Preferred Guest (SPG), et créé le Starwood International Press Club. À ce jour, le SPG compte près de cinq millions de membres.
