Lebanon’s 2023: A year of earthquakes

Dear reader,

The year started off with a huge earthquake and ended with the ground beneath our feet shaking once again, with war.

In between, we experienced, once again, a year of political deadlock and stalled investigations.

And the brief respite of the summer season, when we got our hopes up for recovery, was cruelly smashed on Oct.7.

Since then, we are once again living in the expectation and fear that the worst can and will still happen.

But 2024 is around the corner, and some people are still fighting to make good things happen, and to make a difference.

Let’s keep them in mind when the New Year’s Eve bells ring, so that we start the year with a shred of hope.
