Searching for a breath of fresh air

Dear reader,

Life is going on, despite everything. Now that Hassan Nasrallah has spoken a second time and is still following the rules of engagement, the country is cautiously optimistic that the war won’t spread too much.

The Beirut marathon took place, despite everything.

Shops and venues started putting up Christmas decorations.

People are going back to their activities, to some planning for the future.

Life is, slowly but surely, going on.

Kind of.

Because we’re still in a limbo.

Expats are still wondering whether they will come back for the holidays.

People are still carrying their emergency bags with them.

And more importantly, the south is still at war, facing bombs and destruction every day.

In a country where the state is absent, where the economic crisis lingers and permeates society, how will people rebuild their homes and infrastructure when the war is over ?

After all, community building can only go so far, and diaspora money and external help are more and more limited.
