Between speeches

Dear reader,

Is this going to be the new normal ? Trying to go on our way amid a simmering war, in between Hassan Nasrallah’s speeches, as if our life was between brackets ?

If that’s the case, it’s going to be exhausting — even for those of us not already suffering bombardment along the border in Lebanon’s south.

This time last week, many of us felt relieved at the end of Nasrallah’s speech, as it meant that the entirety of the country was not going to war, yet.

Tomorrow’s speech is, ostensibly at least, part of Hezbollah Martyr’s Day. The group has already lost 70 fighters since Oct. 7, according to its public count.

But we cannot avoid being slightly anxious.

Because we never know.
