BEIRUT – Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon continued on Monday, killing a sheikh who hosted a religious program on Hezbollah’s al-Manar channel in a strike near Sour.

Foreign Minister Joe Rajji, meanwhile, sent a letter to the U.N. Security Council and its secretary-general, lodging a complaint over Israel’s ongoing violations of Lebanese sovereignty in recent months, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA).

Monday afternoon, an Israeli military drone targeted a vehicle on the road linking Hosh to Sour in southern Lebanon. The driver, Sheikh Ali Noureddine, was critically injured and later succumbed to his wounds near the Hosh mosque, according to L'Orient Today's south Lebanon correspondent.

Earlier Monday morning, an Israeli aircraft dropped two stun grenades on the village of Odaisseh in the Marjayoun district, near a new Lebanese Army post at Khallet al-Mahafer. According to our correspondent, this was the third attempt by the Israeli army to aim at Lebanese troops stationed at the site.

Israeli artillery also repeatedly shelled the outskirts of Aitaroun in the Bint Jbeil district, at one point targeting the al-Hariqa area with mortars fired from a newly occupied position on Jabal al-Batt.

On Sunday night, Israeli jets conducted a strike around 3 a.m., launching several missiles near Mrouj Aqmata in the Louaizeh hills (Jezzine district). Israeli aircraft carried out nine strikes in three waves using heavy missiles, targeting Wadi Berghoz (Hasbaya district), as well as the hills of Jbour and Kassarat al-Aroush between the Rihan heights and Louaizeh.

Complaint to the Security Council

In his letter to the U.N. Security Council and Secretary-General, Rajji lodged a formal complaint over Israel’s continued violations of Lebanese sovereignty, citing 542 violations in October, 691 in November, and 803 in December 2025 — a total of 2,036 incidents, according to NNA.

Rajji urged the Security Council to compel Israel to implement Resolution 1701 (2006) and the Nov. 27, 2024 cease-fire, withdraw from the five positions it occupies in southern Lebanon, end its violations and repeated incursions, and release Lebanese prisoners.

Rajji highlighted the Cabinet’s adoption of the Lebanese Army plan on Sept. 5, 2025, noting that the first phase of Hezbollah disarmament south of the Litani River had been completed and troops deployed, except in areas still occupied by Israel. The plan’s successive phases cover the area between the Litani and Awali rivers, Beirut and Mount Lebanon, the Bekaa and eventually the rest of Lebanon.

President Joseph Aoun discussed the situation in the South with Rajji, including ongoing Israeli attacks and the diplomatic measures being pursued in response.

Israeli forces also carried out additional strikes on Sunday in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa, killing two people and wounding several others. On Wednesday, strikes across southern Lebanon injured at least 19 people and displaced 50 families.
