BEIRUT — A man opened fire on several cars in which high school students in Zahle were driving Tuesday afternoon, without causing any injuries. The students, from the Evangelical school in Zahle, were out for a joyride to celebrate a school event, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the Bekaa, who cited the students' parents.

The parents said that the gunman had defended his actions by saying the students were disturbing local residents and that he shot at the vehicles — not the students themselves — and then slashed their tires with a knife, before retreating to his home to hide.

In a statement, the Evangelical school's parents' committee condemned the shooter's "barbaric behavior" and "irresponsibility," calling on the security forces to intervene and on the students to lodge a formal complaint.

Security sources told L'Orient Today on Tuesday evening that the shooter had been arrested and is being questioned
