MTC Touch outage in Hermel

BEIRUT — MTC Touch customers in the Hermel district have been cut off from phone service since this morning, the state-run National News Agency reports.

Here’s what we know:

    • According to the NNA, the reason behind the service outage in the area is still unknown.

    • Telecommunications cuts and weak mobile signal have become very common in Lebanon in recent months, mainly due to the high cost of diesel fuel which is needed to provide electricity to operate the network.

    • On Dec. 13, Alfa and Touch employees began a strike to protest “the violation of their rights” and to show their opposition to any increase in tariffs. The strike lasted over a week.

    • A source from Alfa told L’Orient Today that staffing shortages resulting from the strike would affect service.
