BEIRUT — General Security head Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim has said he will appear before the judiciary “when things are done according to the administrative and legal framework,” adding that he is “not above the law.”

Judge Tarek Bitar, who is leading the investigation into the Aug. 4 Beirut port explosion, has sought to prosecute Ibrahim alongside former ministers and other high-ranking officials.

Ibrahim on Thursday also hit out at what he said was a “suspicious campaign... of character assassination” against him, while thanking those who supported him. In the last week, posters bearing Ibrahim’s face and the words “we are with you, the noblest of men” have appeared on major highways.
