State Security arrests individual accused of posing as UN official

BEIRUT — State Security in Mount Lebanon has arrested a man accused of impersonating a UN official, according to a statement from the security agency published Saturday by the state-run National News Agency. The statement adds that the arrest took place in Blat, near Jbeil, north of Beirut.

"During the investigation, he confessed to committing fraud and impersonating the position of head of foreign relations at the United Nations, Beirut. He deceived citizens into believing they would be employed by the United Nations in exchange for money through the completion of forged forms. He also forged an employee ID card at the United Nations headquarters," State Security said in a statement relayed by NNA.

"He was kept in custody after consulting the competent judicial authorities, and his mobile phone, which contained forged cards and employment forms, was confiscated. Based on the judiciary's instructions, the General Directorate of State Security released his photo in the media, requesting citizens who have fallen victim to his actions to contact the State Security offices in Mount Lebanon to take appropriate legal measures," the statement concluded.
