BEIRUT — The Lebanese Foreign Ministry issued a strong condemnation of the recent attack on American forces stationed at the Jordanian border, labeling it a blatant violation of Jordan's sovereignty and a catalyst for tension and escalation in the region.

The attack, which occurred Sunday night and is believed to have been carried out by pro-Iranian factions, targeted a US logistical base in the Jordanian desert near its borders with Iray and Syria. The drone strike resulted in the deaths of three American soldiers and left dozens wounded.

Expressing solidarity with Jordan, the Lebanese ministry voiced its support for measures taken by authorities to ensure the country's security and stability. It urged influential parties to bolster efforts for securing peace in the region and called for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and other occupied Palestinian territories. The ministry advocated for a political solution founded on the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with United Nations resolutions.

In response to the attack, the United States has vowed to deliver significant retaliation. Meanwhile, Iran has denied any involvement amid an already volatile regional landscape, driven primarily by the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Addressing the situation, President Joe Biden assured reporters on Tuesday that he is not seeking a wider war in the Middle East. At 81 years old, the President is facing substantial political pressure to respond to the drone strike in Jordan, amidst calls for a measured approach to avoid further escalation.
