BEIRUT — One person was shot dead in a fight that broke out in Hay al-Sellom in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Thursday, according to a security source, the state-run National News Agency, and information circulated in online media.
A security source told L'Orient Today that the fight was caused by a dispute regarding generator subscriptions, without giving further details.
According to information circulating online, the incident happened near the compound of Imam al-Rida in Hay al-Sellom.
A video of the incident shows a visibly upset man shouting at another man standing by a van. Around a dozen people are gathered, some watching and some attempting to restrain the men. The first man shoots twice, first in the air and then down at the ground. As he is walking away, the second man pulls a gun from his waist and shoots twice, on the second shot the first man falls. The video then shows several people gathered around the man on the ground as the other leaves on a motorbike.
Contacted by L'Orient Today, the mukhtar of Hay al-Sellom was not aware of the shooting. The Federation of Southern Suburb Municipalities was not immediately available for comment.
